The first International Women’s Day occurred in 1911, supported by over one million people. This year’s theme for this day is #BalanceforBetter, its main purpose to build awareness of gender balance around the world. The campaign runs all year long and everyone has a part to play. Balance is not a women’s issue, balance promotes a better working world. The race is on for the gender-balanced government, gender-balance of employees, gender-balanced boardroom, gender-balance in wealth, etc. Gender balance is vital for society and economies to flourish.

To honor this day, men and women around the world are coming together to host events celebrating womanhood ranging from seminars, gigs, fairs, feminists marches and yoga classes. Many take to social media to bring awareness and support women empowerment on this day. IWD is also considered as an official holiday in a number of places including China, Cuba, Afghanistan, Laos, Uganda, Vietnam, Armenia, etc.
